There’s a new place to eat in the Montrose area.
Chef Jeffrey Winer has opened the Market Gourmet @ Montrose, with specialty foods and a carryout cafe.
His menu is full of soups, sandwiches and salads, including a Create-a-Salad from a list of several dozen ingredients. The market also sells wine.
Signature items include Winer’s onion soup, market Thai salad, tarragon chicken salad and California chicken sandwich.
The marketplace carries gourmet foods from Cowgirl Creamery, Lake Erie Creamery, LuLu Feast from the East, Plus Puffs (California-made marshmallows with no gluten and no high-fructose corn syrup), Honey Pacifica, Saltistry and Whicked Whoopies. Lake Erie Creamery from Cleveland sells its cheese only to restaurants and to the Market Gourmet for retail sales.
The store will be having tastings so shoppers can try some of the new items before buying.
Winer grew up in Fairlawn, is a graduate of Copley High School and Ohio State University, and has worked in food service for more than 20 years. He previously was chef at Rosemont Country Club, leaving there in June. Winer also operates On Market Catering, a full-service catering and event planning company.
